   Gelcoat is opaque unlike paint so its slightly see through unlike paint.No matter how many coats of gelcoat you use you will alwlays be able to see through it to some extent so if you have red then YES you will see through the white and see Red..

   I have been doing gelcoat repair for thirty years full time. Using the technique like this on a boat would be a disaster! and i garantee it would be highly noticable.

   gelcoat will fill 120 scratches like its nothing…as for the filler, if you gotta use white so you cant see it through the gel, then you aint got enough gel on there period….shouldnt see through it if its red, white, or blue
